Jacob S. Feister was born on 7 July 1844 at Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.1
Jacob S. Feister married Elizabeth Jane Lafferty, daughter of Jacob Lafferty and Lydia McGalligher, in 1870.1,3 His estate was probated in 1933 at Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and recorded in Will Book M, Vol 3, page 12 for 1933.4
Jacob S. Feister died on 17 April 1933 at Paradise, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at age 88. This record appears in the Civil War Pension files.5 He died on 24 April 1933 at Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at age 88. Cause of death was infirmitites.6,7 He was buried on 27 April 1933 at Kinzer Mennonite Cemetery, Kinzers, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.1 His funeral was held at home of son William, Monument, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on 27 April 1933; 1:30 for private service and 2:00 pm for public service at the church.8 Jacob S. He appeared on the census of 1860 at Salisbury Twp, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.10 He began military service on 6 April 1865.5 He was probably among the soldiers serving as Garrison Unit duty officers.
Starting in 1861, volunteer troops were sent to garrison Fort Delaware that included, Collis' Zouaves de Afrique,19th New York Volunteers, Mlotkowski's Independent Battery A, Young's Independent Battery G (Pittsburgh Heavy Artillery), 5th Delaware Infantry, 6th Delaware Infantry, 9th Delaware Infantry, 5th Maryland Infantry, 11th Maryland Infantry, 6th Massachusetts Infantry (100 Days), 157th Pennsylvania Infantry (Battalion), 201st Pennsylvania Infantry, 215th Pennsylvania, 157th Ohio Infantry, 196th Ohio Infantry, and zouaves of the 165th New York Infantry. The fort was also used to organize and muster troops from the first state. Ahl's Independent Battery of Heavy Artillery was organized here for garrison duty. Although listed as a Delaware unit, Ahl's Battery was composed of Confederate prisoners that took the oath of allegiance.
The fort's artillery soldiers were responsible for manning the guard posts within the fort as well as serving on various duty positions on the island. Infantry troops were mainly responsible for manning guard posts along the seawall, which ran around the island. In August 1864, there were approximately 85 guard posts on the island that required about 255 men on each shift.

Jacob S. Feister ended military service on 31 July 1865 and had been assigned to Co. B, 215th Regt with PA Volunteers.12,5
He witnessed and is listed in the directory in Paradise Township, occupation laborer, home post office Kinzers. Also he is listed in the Remembrance Book for Civil War held at the Paradise Township office. in 1869 at Paradise, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.13 He and Elizabeth Jane Feister appeared on the census of 6 October 1870 at Leacock Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.14 As of 1880, Jacob S. Feister was also known as Jacob Fiestor.15 He and Elizabeth Jane Feister appeared on the census of 1880 at Leacock, Lancaster, Pennsylvania; recorded as 37 years, Elizabeth 32, Annie 9, Milton 8, George 6, Mary 4, Sarah 2.15 Jacob S. Feister appeared on the surviving soldiers census of June 1890 at Paradise Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. As listed in 1890 Surviving Soldiers records, it was recorded as follows: Private Co B 215 Reg,PA Infantry. Date of discharge 3 Aug 1865. Length of service 6 months. The fort was also used to organize and muster troops from the first state. Ahl's Independent Battery of Heavy Artillery was organized here for garrison duty. Although listed as a Delaware unit, Ahl's Battery was composed of Confederate prisoners that took the oath of allegiance.
The fort's artillery soldiers were responsible for manning the guard posts within the fort as well as serving on various duty positions on the island. Infantry troops were mainly responsible for manning guard posts along the seawall, which ran around the island. In August 1864, there were approximately 85 guard posts on the island that required about 255 men on each shift.
