Funeral services for William Edward Blake, 90, of Bedford were held January 20 in the First Baptist Church of Bedford with Rev. Carter W. Smith officiating. Mr. Blake died January 18, 1977 in West Heights Manor in Clarinda. Interment was at the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, Mo.

William Edward Blake, son of Watson Lemuel And Mary Elizabeth Blake, was born at DeWitt, Nebraska on December 12, 1886.

Mr. Blake lived in the Bedford area and grew to maturity here where he attended the public schools and the Hazel Dell and First Baptist Churches.

On February 14, 1915 he was united in marriage to Lela Spencer at the Hazel Dell church near Bedford and then lived in rural Bedford until recent years.

To this union two sons were born: Robert L. Blake of Bedford and Loren E. Blake who died in infancy.

He was engaged in farming until retirement when he was the Sustain at the First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Loren, four sisters, one brother and a half brother.

Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Lela, a son, Robert, and his wife Beatrice; a sister Rosa VanFossen of College Springs, Iowa; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford.1

He was engaged in farming and was a city mail carrier.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Loren Edward.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Beatrice of the home; sons, Richard and daughter-in-law Judy, Edward and daughter-in-law Tammy; daughters, Kay Paxton, Patricia and husband Steve Redinger and seven grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford, the Masons in Siam, the American Legion in Keota. He served three years in the United States Marine corps; during World War II he was on duty in Okinawa.
He was a kind and considerate father and husband and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.1 He was buried on 23 May 1987 at Fairview Cemetery, Bedord, Taylor, Iowa.1

She was born May 29, 1929 at Conway, Iowa the daughter of Newton Emmett and Katie Norene Anthony Boyd. ea grew up around the Bedford area and graduated high school. She taught in the country schools prior to her marriage.

She was united in marriage to Robert Leroy Blake on November 2, 1946 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He preceded her in death, May 20, 1987.

Bea was an advocate for higher education and loved to learn. As she raised a family and helped with the farm, she was able to obtain the goal of college and receive a higher education. Bea obtained her masters degree in Special Education and taught in the Keota school district for many years and retired in her seventies. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. In her seventies, she continued to learn and obtained a Pharmacy Technician license.

Bea loved to travel, she went to all fifty states and also traveled overseas. Bea loved spending time with her family and friends. Family was important to her. She was instrumental in planning family reunions every year.

In 2013, Bea moved to Fairfield, Iowa to be closer to her daughter. She continued to live life to the fullest, enjoying family, gardening, flowers and traveling on bus tours.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, one son Richard Lee Blake; one daughter Kay Elaine Paxton and one sister, Wilma Burks.

A graveside service will be 11:30 a.m.Thursday October 29, 2015 at the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.

Bennett, 90, of Blairsville, died Friday, April 25, 2008 at her home. She was born Dec. 30, 1917 in Acosta, Pa., the daughter of the late Charles Andrew Rexrode and Nevada Bell Huffman Rexrode. Freda was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville. She enjoyed playing cards, doing needlepoint, and bowling. She had worked at a sewing factory and clothes-packing plant in the 1960s. She is survived by a daughter, Nevada Gayle Truax, Blairsville; a brother, Charles E. Rexrode and wife Helen, Mannington, W.Va; two sisters, Grace Fancher, Farmington, W.Va., and Whinnie Agnes, Mantua, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Donna Bennett, Hubert, N.C; Also a special friend Liz Staschak; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Eugene Bennett in 1982; son Dale E. Jr., and brother Clyde Rexrode. Friends were received at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, where funeral services were conducted Monday with Pastor Beverly J. Banyay officiating. Interment was in Blairsville Cemetery.
