Obituary: Playground Daily News; Thursday May 22, 1969; Walton Beach Florida
Colonel Hampton Ray Kenaston, Jr.

Colonel (retired) Hampton R. Kenaston, USAF, 66 died suddenly at his home in Mary Esther, Tuesday evening after a long illness.
Colonel Kenaston came to this area in 1949 as Judge Advocate to the APGC. After his retirement he served for 6 years as Executive Secretary of the Okaloosa County Chest, a position he resigned last summer owing to illness.
Born in Bonesteel, Gregory County, South Dakota Colonel Kenaston was a graduate of the University of So. Dak., where he obtained his law degree. He was a member of the South Dakota and Iowa Bar Association, and was admitted before the Bar of the United States. He was Municipal Judge for twelve years, resigning that post to enter active duty with the Army after Pearl Harbor. Following training at the Judge Advocate General's School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he was assigned as Assistant Judge Advocate to the 8th Bomber Command in England and subsequently served as Judge Advocate XIX TAC and XXIX TAC, 9th Air Force in England, Belgium, and Holland; before being recalled to the United States in 1945, shortly before the death of his first wife, Maurine Bulow Kenaston, daughter of South Dakota Governor Bulow.
Following assignment to Maxwell Field, Alabama he went to the Pentagon, where he served as the first chairman of the Board of Review for four years before coming to Eglin AFB as Chief Legal Advisor to the Commanding General APGC in 1949. In 1953 he served as Judge Advocate at Robin AFB Georgia, where he retired in 1955, and the family returned to the Playground Area.
Among his many military decorations is the Belgian Fourrarge.
One of the organizations of the Northwest Florida Retired Officer Club, he was its first President. He was also active in the Kiwanis for several years, and a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge until the time of his death.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but burial will be at Fort Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. The family suggests that friends who prefer not to send flowers might wish to send donations to the Okaloosa Community Chest in memory of Colonel Kenaston.
Surviving are the widow (his second wife) Nancy M Shields Kenaston, and three children. Miss Sara Jean Kenaston of Jacksonville, Florida; Mrs. Kenneth H. (Janice Kenaston) High, of Griffiss AFB, New York, and William Bulow Kenaston of Fort Walton Beach. There are five grandchildren.3
