     Lewis D Hughes was born circa 1830 at New Jersey.1 He married Sarah E Urnes on 31 December 1851 at Reformed Dutch Church, New Jersey.1,2 Lewis D Hughes died on 6 May 1864 at Battle of Wilderness, Virginia; I hereby certify that Lewis D Hughes, late a sargeant
in Company L, First Regiment, NJ vols was wounded by a musket ball from the enemy
in the chest on 6th day of May AD 1864 at the Battle of Spotsvania, in the state of
Virginia, and died of said wond on the same day; that at time of his death he was in
the service of the United States, and at the time he received his musket wound he was
in the line of his duty. I also certify I was the Captain in command of the company,
duly commissioned as such, under whom he served at the time aforsaid; and that this
certificate is made from my personal knowledge of the facts aforesaid. Signed Wm H

William H. Hick in the 1st Regiment of Calvary, NJ volunteers. He was first mustered
in as a wagoner on Sept 9, 1861. On the muster roll for Company L, May and June
1864 he is reported as killed May 5, 1864 at Todd's Tavern.x.2

Mrs. Fairbanks was born July 17, 1916 in Blairsville, daughter of James M. and Amanda Cousins Everett. She lived her entire life in Blairsville where she was a member of Hebron Lutheran Church and Eastern Star 166.
Survivors include four children, Robert G. and wife Joy, Carl D. and Mrs. Roger (Nancy) Bergman, all of Blairsville, and Mrs. Michael (Mary Jane) Kernen, Lakeland, Fla; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Glenn O. in 1992; granddaughter Amy Fairbanks; her brothers James and Meade; her sisters Florence Weir and Barbara Lightbody.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday in Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville, Rev. Karen L. Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery.
