Violet Eisenberger was born on 10 September 1909 at Columbia, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.2 She married Paul C Baker on 5 July 1941; Violet lived with her foster parents, Thomas M Armer and his wife Eliza Jane Murray from after 1920 until her marriage in 1941. Violet Eisenberger died on 31 July 2012 at Tel Hai, Honey Brook, Chester, Pennsylvania, at age 102;
Violet E. Baker
"Mrs. Gap"
Violet E. Baker, age 102, of Tel Hai Retirement Community, formerly of her beloved Gap, PA, passed away at Tel Hai on Tuesday, July 31, 2012. She was the wife of the late Paul C. Baker, who passed away on June 8, 1984.
She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Paul & Flora Hartman Eisenberger. Her education consisted of the former Linville Hill School, Gap Consolidated School, Salisbury Township High School, Coatesville Business School and the Philadelphia School of Practical Nursing. She was a very active member of Bellevue Presbyterian Church of Gap for 89 years. She taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the choir for 25 years, and was chairperson of the flower committee for over 30 years, chairperson for the blood bank and on the committee for the Presbyterian Homes. Violet also set up a card file to record all the burials in Bellevue Cemetery. She helped for years with the Bellevue Tidings, a monthly church newsletter. For over 30 years, Violet delivered the weekly church altar flowers to the sick and shut-ins of the church. Violet never asked for a job; her employment was always in the Gap area. She worked at the former Paradise Seed Factory during the summers while going to school, Gap Post Office for 31 years, J.C. Walker & Son and the Gap National Bank. She was a member of the Salisbury Township Alumni Association, Salisbury Township Historical Society and the Historical Preservation Trust. Violet was an encyclopedia of information on the Gap Town Clock. Violet was well known for saving the clock tower. When it was in danger of being dismantled during the widening of Route 41, she got the community involved, got financial help and had the clock moved to its current location. This began the Gap Town Clock Association of which Violet became secretary in 1953 and secretary/ treasurer in 1957 and held these positions for over 55 years. She volunteered for the former Gap Meals on Wheels, Lancaster County United Campaign, and Office of Aging. At the time of her passing, Violet was actively involved in the planning of her 103rd birthday which would have been on September 10th of this year. Violet served her community and church for many years and in many ways often quietly and unknown. At an age when many say I have done enough and deserve a rest, she continued to be an active participant in both her church and community. She will be missed by the many that knew her and by all that she considered to be her family.
She is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Grant Blottenberger.
Funeral service will take place from the Bellevue Presbyterian Church, 810 Newport Avenue, Gap, PA on Friday, August 3rd, at 11 a.m. with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gap Clock Tower Association, c/o Kathy Stern, 874 Simmontown Road, Gap, PA 17527.
