S.W. Rittenhouse STRICKEN IN AUTO

Samuel W. Rittenhouse, 242 W. Orange St., was stricken fatally while driving an auto west in the 300 blcok of W. Chestnut Street at 6:10 a.m. Saturday.

Police said that Rittenhouse was driving a car owned by Longenecker's Drug Store, 402 N. Duke St., and hit an auto belonging to Mrs. Elizabeth I. Harnish, 324 W. Chestnut St., parked in front of her home.

Two witnesses, Miles L. Messerman, 1202 Elm Ave., who was enroute to work at the Post Office, and Lawrence Weitzel, 36 N. Concord St., observed that Rittenhouse appeared to be ill and notified police.

DEAD ON ARRIVAL

Rittenhouse was conveyed in the city ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. John Leahy, an intern; Dr. Charles P. Stahr, deputy coroner said death resulted from a heart attack.

Police notified the victim's brother, Jacob Rittenhouse, 821 E. Marion St., and the Longenecker drug store. Rittenhouse had been working as deliverymanat the drug store since last July.

He was a veteran of World War II, during which he served in the Navy. He was a life long resident of Lancaster.

WAS LUTHERAN

He was the son of the late William L. and Margaret Frankfort Rittenhouse and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 34, and the VFW Garden Spot Post, 1690.

Surviving are a daughter, Jane, wife of Harold Myers, Lancaster, and two grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Nellie, wife of Arthur W. Young and Margaret M., wife of Herbert Kauffman, both of Lancaster, and two brothers, David E., New Danville, and Jacob A., Miami, Fla.

RITTENHOUSE - Entered into rest in this city on January 29, 1955, Samuel W. Rittenhouse, 242 West Orange Street. The relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral without further notice fromt the Funeral Home of Fred F. Groff, Inc., 234 West Orange Street, on Tuesday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock. Interment in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
