George L. Fiester, 86, formerly of Buckwalter Road, Lancaster, died at Conestoga View on Sunday following a lenghty illness. He was the husband of Meriam B. Probst Fiester, of 103 Willow Valley Drive, Lancaster, for 65 years on April 28.

George retired as a superintendent from Wohlsen Construction Company. He was well known for supervising restoration work on the Fulton Opera House, Rock Ford Plantation, the Sehner-Von Ellicott House and Wright s Mansion. In 1981, he was honored for his craftsmanship. George served in the US Army Cannon Company, 349th Infantry Regiment, in Italy during WWII. He was an active member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Millersville and served on the church board until his retirement and he performed a lot of carpentry work and painting on the Church building. George was an avid hunter and enjoyed yard work, gardening and raising flowers.

Born in Bart Township, he was the son of the late Mary Fiester. George is survived by two daughters: Elaine Y., married to Roy Barley, Sr. of Lancaster and Lorraine M. Fiester of Strasburg; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Julia F. Towsey and a grandson, Mark E. Towsey.
