M. Jean Rynier, age 90, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Moravian Manor Nursing Home in Lititz, PA. Born in Paradise, PA, she was the daughter of the late Adam E. and Elsie E. Leaman Rynier. She graduated from Paradise High School class of 1943.
During World War II she became a trumpet player in an all-girl orchestra called “Joan Lee and Her Girl Orchestra” whose motto was “While the boys are away, the girls will play.” Jean was employed by Educators Mutual Life Insurance Company for 42 years, working payroll in the Accounting Department and later was a supervisor of the Records Department. She also worked as a waitress at the former Joe Myers Diner for 20 years.
Jean was a life-time member of St. John’s United Methodist Church where she served as a choir director for over 50 years. Jean loved lying in the sun by the pool with neighbors and traveling to Ocean City, MD. She was also an avid golfer. She was independent all her life and never married or had children.
She is survived by five nephews and their families: Kent Rynier of Lancaster, Craig Rynier of Leola, Randall Feister of Lititz, James Feister of Lancaster, and Charles Preston of Bel Air, MD. Jean is the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
Her family will miss her smile and laugh and her wonderful alto voice when she burst into a spontaneous song that a comment would trigger. She will also be greatly missed by her friend, Jacquelyn Crist, and her three daughters and their families. Jean’s family would like to thank all the nurses at Moravian Manor and Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion during her illness.
A memorial service will take place at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 3001 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise, PA, 17562 on Saturday, August 22nd, at 1 p.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
