Amy J. Woerth, age 42, born August 19, 1965 in Lancaster. Beloved daughter and sister went to her final rest on Tuesday evening November 6, 2007 after 41 years of many trials and tribulations. For the last 31 years she spent three times a week on Renal Dialysis and knew it as her way of life. She never complained of those many treatments as they were her "life-line". She was a great inspiration to many of the patients, who looked upon her as a source of comfort and gave them the courage to carry on. Through her life she had much to be proud of
After first starting dialysis at age 11; she made Christmas decorations for her doctors, nurses, patients and friends until the last two years when her hands failed her. Over the years she got well known for many cakes she made both for occasions and weddings. Her first love was quilting, she would sit and quilt for hours, all perfect stitches and made approximately fifty. Amy even made one for John Denver, whom she listened to while quilting. Her last quilt was done in 1996 when her arthritic hands made her give that up. In 2002 poetry started coming to Amy and she had a book published which she called "Down the Hollow" a book of memories and poems. Many of these books have been given to patients, doctors and nurses or whoever she felt should have one. She now has enough for another book, which her family has promised to publish.
Amy is survived by her parents: John "Jack" and Pat Sinclair Woerth with whom she resided, 4 siblings: Scott (Linda) Woerth of Kirkwood, Kimberly (Jerry) Bandy of Christiana, Brian (Cheryn) Woerth of Christiana, Lori (James) Wiggins of Quarryville. Also surviving are 8 nieces and nephews and her buddy for the last 17 years, Sammy her kitty.
Her eulogy will be given by her beloved nephrologist of many years, Dr. John Schubert. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend the memorial service from the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA on Saturday, November 10th at 2 P.M. with a calling time one hour prior. Contributions may be made to the Lancaster Area Kidney Association, P.O. Box 1446, Lancaster, PA 17604 or to Hospice of Lancaster Co., P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.1,2
