     Violet Eisenberger was born on 10 September 1909 at Columbia, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.2 She married Paul C Baker on 5 July 1941; Violet lived with her foster parents, Thomas M Armer and his wife Eliza Jane Murray from after 1920 until her marriage in 1941. Violet Eisenberger died on 31 July 2012 at Tel Hai, Honey Brook, Chester, Pennsylvania, at age 102;
Violet E. Baker

"Mrs. Gap"
Violet E. Baker, age 102, of Tel Hai Retirement Community, formerly of her beloved Gap, PA, passed away at Tel Hai on Tuesday, July 31, 2012. She was the wife of the late Paul C. Baker, who passed away on June 8, 1984.
She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Paul & Flora Hartman Eisenberger. Her education consisted of the former Linville Hill School, Gap Consolidated School, Salisbury Township High School, Coatesville Business School and the Philadelphia School of Practical Nursing. She was a very active member of Bellevue Presbyterian Church of Gap for 89 years. She taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the choir for 25 years, and was chairperson of the flower committee for over 30 years, chairperson for the blood bank and on the committee for the Presbyterian Homes. Violet also set up a card file to record all the burials in Bellevue Cemetery. She helped for years with the Bellevue Tidings, a monthly church newsletter. For over 30 years, Violet delivered the weekly church altar flowers to the sick and shut-ins of the church. Violet never asked for a job; her employment was always in the Gap area. She worked at the former Paradise Seed Factory during the summers while going to school, Gap Post Office for 31 years, J.C. Walker & Son and the Gap National Bank. She was a member of the Salisbury Township Alumni Association, Salisbury Township Historical Society and the Historical Preservation Trust. Violet was an encyclopedia of information on the Gap Town Clock. Violet was well known for saving the clock tower. When it was in danger of being dismantled during the widening of Route 41, she got the community involved, got financial help and had the clock moved to its current location. This began the Gap Town Clock Association of which Violet became secretary in 1953 and secretary/ treasurer in 1957 and held these positions for over 55 years. She volunteered for the former Gap Meals on Wheels, Lancaster County United Campaign, and Office of Aging. At the time of her passing, Violet was actively involved in the planning of her 103rd birthday which would have been on September 10th of this year. Violet served her community and church for many years and in many ways often quietly and unknown. At an age when many say I have done enough and deserve a rest, she continued to be an active participant in both her church and community. She will be missed by the many that knew her and by all that she considered to be her family.
She is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Grant Blottenberger.
Funeral service will take place from the Bellevue Presbyterian Church, 810 Newport Avenue, Gap, PA on Friday, August 3rd, at 11 a.m. with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gap Clock Tower Association, c/o Kathy Stern, 874 Simmontown Road, Gap, PA 17527. Arrangements by the Shivery Funeral Home, Inc., Christiana & Paradise.

He witnessed 5 Girls Dead in Amish School Shooting

NICKEL MINES, Pa. (AP) - A fifth child wounded in the shootings at an Amish schoolhouse in Lancaster County died Tuesday in a Delaware hospital, state police said.
The child who had been taken to Christiana Hospital in Delaware died about 1 a.m., state police spokeswoman Linette Quinn said.
The girl was one of seven wounded in the school shooting Monday, the nation's third in less than a week. Three girls, and the gunman, died at the school, in a bucolic area of Lancaster County, authorities said.
Quinn said the two girls who died in hospitals early Tuesday had suffered "very severe injuries, but the other ones are coming along very well."
Another victim, a 7-year-old girl, died about 4:30 a.m. at Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey, hospital spokeswoman Amy Buehler Stranges said.
"Her parents were with her," Buehler Stranges said. "She was taken off life support and she passed away shortly after."
A 6-year-old girl remained in critical condition and a 13-year-old girl was in serious condition at Penn State Childrens, Buehler Stranges said. She said the names of the children were not being released.
Three girls, ages 8, 10 and 12, were flown to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where they were out of surgery but remained in critical condition today, spokeswoman Peggy Flynn said.
Charles Carl Roberts IV, apparently spurred by a grudge two decades old, wrote his wife what authorities described as suicide notes, took guns and ammunition and went to a nearby one-room schoolhouse, where he killed three girls, critically injured seven more, and took his own life, authorities said.
Roberts, a father of three, also had a daughter who died as an infant. State police Commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller told NBC's "Today" said investigators were looking into other events in Roberts' background.
"We believe there are some other things that he was deeply troubled by," Miller said.
Roberts, 32, of Bart, was not Amish, did not appear to be targeting the Amish and apparently chose the school because he was bent on killing young girls as a way of "acting out in revenge for something that happened 20 years ago,"
Two young students were killed at the West Nickel Mines Amish School, along with a female teacher's aide who was slightly older than the students. Seven others, most shot at point-blank range, were taken to hospitals, authorities said.
"This is a horrendous, horrific incident for the Amish community. They're solid citizens in the community. They're good people. They don't deserve ... no one deserves this," Miller said.
According to investigators, Roberts had finished his milk deliveries before dawn Monday, dropped his own children off at their school bus stop, then at about 10 a.m. pulled up at the Amish school, which had about 25 to 30 students ranging in age from six to 13.
Roberts brought with him supplies necessary for a lengthy siege, including three guns, a stun gun, two knives, a pile of wood and a bag with 600 rounds of ammunition, police said. He also had a change of clothing, toilet paper, bolts and hardware and rolls of clear tape.
He released about 15 boys, a pregnant woman and three women with infants, barred the doors with desks and wood and secured them with nails, bolts and flexible plastic ties. He then made the girls line up along a blackboard and tied their feet together.
The teacher and another adult fled to a nearby farmhouse, and authorities were called at about 10:30 a.m. Miller said Roberts apparently called his wife from a cell phone at around 11 a.m., saying he was taking revenge for an old grudge. Miller declined to say what the grudge could have been.
"It seems as though he wanted to attack young, female victims," Miller said.
Moments later, Roberts told a dispatcher he would open fire on the children if police didn't back away from the building. Within seconds, troopers heard gunfire, and found his body when they were able to get inside.
From the suicide notes and telephone calls, it was clear Roberts was "angry at life, he was angry at God," and co-workers said his mood had darkened in recent days, Miller said.
The names and ages of the dead were not immediately released. on 2 October 2006.2

Mark William Kachel

M, b. 15 September 1968, d. 5 February 1998
Last Edited9 Jul 2015
Mark William Kachel was born on 15 September 1968. He died on 5 February 1998 at Brandywine Hospital, West Chester, Chester, Pennsylvania, at age 29. His wife shared this information with me on 17th anniversary of his death: Mark did not die at Brandywine.
He was in his vehicle...dead...for quite some time at the accident scene. He died "instantly" mainly because he was parked between the guard rail and the truck that hit him so his body took all the impact and it ruptured his brain stem. He had no bruising or anything whatsoever because he just...stopped that moment. It was weird seeing him dead when he "looked" perfectly fine.

I am not sure what the law would be in 1998 in Chester County as far as where he'd have been "pronounced" dead (like if the coroner comes to the scene or if the body is taken to the coroner at the hospital) but he didn't die at Brandywine Hospital. He died at the intersection of Rte. 41 and Zook Road in Christiana...parked by the side of the road watching a jackknifed tractor trailer coming straight at him...His body was taken to the trauma center once removed from his truck.1,2 He was buried on 8 February 1998 at Georgetown United Methodist Cemetery, Bart, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Obituary reads:
MARK KACHEL, 29, OF GAP, DIES IN ACCIDENT

Mark W. Kachel, 29, of Gap died Thursday at Brandywine Hospital and Trauma Center of injuries suffered during a crash at 8:10 a.m. on Route 41 at Zook Road near Christiana.

Officer Jim Peters, of the Atglen-West Sadsbury Regional Police, said Kachel was driving south in West Sadsbury Township, Chester County, when a northbound tractor-trailer, driven by Richard Hetrick of Brookville, smashed into him. The truck had jack-knifed while attempting to avoid another vehicle in West Sadsbury Township, Chester County, police said.

Route 41 was closed for about six hours as investigators pieced together the violent accident.

Kachel, the owner of a painting company, was an active member of Common Clay Christian Fellowship, Atglen, where he played guitar on the worship team.

A volunteer at Cornerstone Pregnancy Care Services, he helped paint and redecorate its facilities in Gap and Oxford.

He was a 1986 graduate of Pequea Valley High School.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Daniel H. Kachel Jr. of Kinzers and Sandi Feister Harbaugh of Honey Grove.

He was married to Dara Shelton Kachel.

Surviving besides his wife and parents are two daughters, Casey T. and Alisson M., both at home; two sons, Sean R. and Josiah W., both at home; maternal grandparents Tom and Rhoda Feister of Kinzers; paternal grandmother Dora Kachel of Bart; two sisters, Karen Soulliard of Mifflintown and Alissa Kachel, attending Messiah College; and a brother, John of Honey Grove.
