George Duffield Gregg was possibly named for the Reverand George Duffield, who was pastor of the Leacock Presbyterian church at the time or shortly before the birth of 'our' George Duffield.
However, there were lots of George Duffields in Lancaster County. The earliest I've found was in 1795 records when a Benjamin Henfley owed George Duffield 800 lbs in 'legal Pennsylvania money' and had to sue Benjamin to get money back. 800 £ in todays money would be worth 8,224 £ or the ablilty to purchase 13 horses, or 978 days of craftsman wages in 1795.5 George Duffield Gregg was also known as Duffield Gregg. He appeared on the census of 6 June 1900 at Paradise Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.6 He was a Railroad laborer according to 1910 census before 1910 at Paradise Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.7 He appeared on the census of 21 April 1910 at Paradise Twp., Lancaster, Pennsylvania.8 He began military service on 12 September 1918 at Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.9 He was a witness when Grace Amelia Lynch was out for a drive in the country, with son Billy Gregg and brother Duff Gregg circa 1920 at Lancaster, Pennsylvania.10

If it's the Sunday before Christmas Eve, the Gregg family will be spending the afternoon at the Paradise-Leaman Place Fire Company Hall, eating lunch, catching up with each other and reminiscing.
It's something the family has been doing since the 1950s, though nobody is quite sure exactly what year the tradition started. Some say 1951 and others say 1956.
Back then, about 50 people came to the gathering.
That included the 10 children of George Duffield Gregg and Gladys Elvina Milley Gregg, the couple that started it all, along with their growing families.
"We started coming here because nobody had a house big enough to fit us all," said Ann Gregg Hartman, 73, one of only three siblings who is still alive.
She, Harold, 71 (the youngest), and Esther Keneagy, 91 (the oldest), were all in attendance Sunday, along with about 125 other family members.
The numbers keep growing.
"Seven babies were born this year," said Kerlee Fox, the daughter of the late Lorraine Gregg, one of the 10 siblings. "I didn't have any trouble knowing who was who until the sixth generation began showing up."
"We have to wear name tags now," added her brother, Duffield Summers Sr.
Kerlee, Duffield and their brother, John Summers, and sister, Sue Schulze, were responsible for this year's party.
Every year, the descendants of one of the 10 siblings host and pay for the party.
"Each family does what they want," Schulze said. "Some cater, some prepare it all. One year, we had four different kinds of lasagna. The only thing set is the date and the location."
Last year's crazy weather forced the family to meet the Sunday after Christmas, but otherwise, nobody remembers the date ever changing.
"We can meet here at the fire hall as long as we don't stop," Duffield said. "If we miss a year, they don't have to invite us back."
Schulze added, "And you don't think any one of the 10 families would want to be the one responsible for that."
Sue Gregg, who was married to the late Harry Gregg, another of the 10 siblings, is the family historian. She's been working on the family tree for 40 years, and keeps track of birthdays and wedding anniversaries in a calendar she sends out to the extended family. It's a big job.
"All 10 of the children survived, married and had children. I believe there was a total of 37 grandchildren," she said.
Almost everyone still lives in Lancaster County, though Ann Harmon Gregg was the one sibling to move out of the area. She lives near Annapolis, Md., and remembers driving to Lancaster in a blizzard when her children were young.
The family also meets in August for a chicken corn soup gathering at someone's home in White Horse. The attendance there is sometimes even larger.
"I think the summer one helps build bonds so, when we come back at Christmas, we want to see how everyone is doing," said Jamie McGinnis, who is the granddaughter of Esther.
McGinnis, 29, who has four children of her own, conceded that she skipped a few years when she was a teenager. They seemed a little boring.
"Then, when I had my own kids, I realized how important family is," she said.
Sue Gregg said she can link more than 7,000 people (including in-laws) to the Gregg family.
"I don't think there are very many families with this many people who've been doing this for so long," she said with a smile. "We have all been blessed with a wonderful family."

Her cause of death: Acute Coronary occlusion, arteriosclertic heart disease. From Cheryl Savage: "I asked my mom if she knew Matthew Seitzer. She said she only knew of him. The story was that she walked into a bar ( of course, where else) and found him having a drink with another woman. She knocked him off the barstool ( can't you just picture that) and then threw his stuff on the porch. Wasn't there an article in a paper about a bar brawl with John Morrow and wife? As far as I knew, none of us ever knew his name which makes it interesting that we have a Matthew Morrow now. Years from now someone is researching their roots they may think Matthew was named afterhis great step-grandfather!!!"13

He is now and has been since his return home suffering from lesion of the lungs and bowels and diarrhea consequent therefrom. He is scarcely able to walk about his room. This constitution is so much impaired that medical treatment has but little effect. He is not able to report in person, as he cannot be moved without risk of life.
Another paper is from Lancaster County Orphan's court appointing Benjamin Brackbill as guardian of James & Leah's daughter, Anna Mary, who was a minor under age of 14 years. this was filed August 21, 1865 by Anna Mary's grandmother Richwine. On the muster out roll of Co C, dated July 12, 1865, he is reported "in hospital, Louisville, KY Oct 3/1862. there is no evidence of death on file at that office.
Following this is a statement from Jesse M Davis, MD stating he attended James Gregg and that he died on Aug 14, 1863 in Paradise Township, Lancaster County of chronic diarrhea and disease of the lungs which symtoms were from the effects of camp fever which he contracted while he was in serice of the United States and that he was well aquainted with him and that he has no interest in this claim. The reason they know the above facts is from long acquantance and knowledge and they further state they have no interest in this claim, signed 17th Feb 1870, and affirmed by Jos C Maker, JP.
On Feb 21, 1870, the doctor that attended the birth of Anna Mary, Joseph H Lefever resident of Strasburg Boro signed a statement to that effect and that James A & Leah Gregg were the parents of Anna Mary Gregg.
